I am an international development professional who has recently started working independently in the sector by opening my evaluation consultancy Mango Tree Consulting.
In the past I have worked in a variety of roles within the third sector: as a charity representative, as a trustee of a small Christian development agency, and crucially, as a development practitioner in Northern Uganda where I learned how projects work (and sometimes how they don’t work) from the initial needs assessment through to the final evaluation. More recently I was a company director in the UK marketing and managing my own business.
Since returning from living full time in Uganda, I have worked on a number of consultancy assignments, which you can view “Past projects” section.
My Qualifications
Key Skills
Working with People
I enjoy facilitating the development of people, and I am good at listening to their hopes and dreams. I find ways to enable them to achieve their goals, especially through researching people’s need for information and making it accessible to them. I use participatory methods and collaboration. I find people are receptive to me and I communicate well, both in written form and orally. I am an enthusiast and like to engage others in what I am motivated by. I use my excellent networking skills to broaden the scope of my work.
Working with Information
I work with information, researching and analysing to gain a strategic view, I take time to understand something well, I analyse the findings and look for patterns that will help me produce a more effective way of working to meet goals. I have used video to capture salient information and then to communicate to today’s more media sophisticated audience.
Working with Resources
I am careful in the use of time, money, labour and physical resources, avoiding waste, getting the best value from them. I have managed learning resources in a college setting.
